Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has capped off his whirlwind trip to New York with what his office is hailing as a “diplomatic triumph” — a 10-minute FaceTime call with Donald Trump Jr.
According to sources, the call was squeezed in between Don Jr.’s podcast recording and a quick run to Bass Pro Shops. Albanese reportedly thanked the former President’s son for “making time for Australia,” before nervously asking if the Wi-Fi was strong enough to go to video.
The PM’s media team immediately blasted out press releases calling it “a meeting with senior figures in the Trump Administration,” despite Trump Jr. holding no official role other than “guy with access to his dad’s golf cart.”
Critics say the stunt shows just how far Australia’s standing has slipped, with one Washington insider joking, “Next year Albo will be bragging about a Zoom with Eric.”
Observers also noted that Albanese kept his signature “Queers for Palestine” shirt on throughout the call, prompting Don Jr. to ask if it was merch from a Brooklyn start-up.
