Communications Minister Anika (Skyworker) Wells has reportedly taken to the skies once again, this time jetting off to the Maldives for an “urgent” work meeting — conveniently avoiding questions about her recent taxpayer-funded adventures.
The minister, known for her uncanny timing, is said to be attending a meeting so important that Zoom simply could not suffice. Sources close to the Maldivian parliamentary intern assure it’s “very urgent… like, heaps important.”
This comes after Wells faced scrutiny over a $3,681 Adelaide trip that included a Labor friend’s birthday party, and her $100,000 business-class flights to New York for a six-and-a-half-minute UN speech promoting Australia’s under-16 social media ban. When asked about the costs, Wells reportedly smiled, nodded and booked the next business flight out of the country.
Opposition figures have labelled her a “full-time frequent flyer and part-time minister,” noting her extraordinary talent for international diplomacy and question-dodging combined.
Meanwhile, Australians can rest easy knowing their money is funding critical work — and a masterclass in avoiding awkward press questions.
