Penny Wong has slammed the Liberals for preferencing One Nation, calling it “un-Australian” — just days after Pauline Hanson joked about deporting her if elected.
The comments come as One Nation gains momentum following a strong South Australian election result, with insiders suggesting Labor is growing uneasy about the party’s rise.
Critics were quick to point out the irony, noting Labor routinely preferences the Australian Greens — a party often associated with controversial protests, activist rhetoric, and far-left policy positions.
“Apparently ‘un-Australian’ just means parties Labor doesn’t like,” one Liberal source said.
Wong, however, insisted there’s a clear difference, maintaining that One Nation’s views are “divisive,” while declining to comment on Labor’s own preference deals.
At the time of publication, voters were still trying to figure out which preferences are acceptable — and which suddenly aren’t.
