Australians of the Year Katherine “Yet-to-Go-to-Space” Bennell-Pegg and anti-body-movement influencer Taryn Brumfitt have backed Grace Tame, saying she is just as deserving of the award as they are.
The endorsement was welcomed by Tame, now widely regarded as Australia’s most dependable protest attendee, having successfully transitioned from survivor advocate to full-time moral omnipresence. Supporters say the backing confirms the Australian of the Year title is less about achievement and more about maintaining a consistent media footprint.
Tame was most recently spotted at a pro-Palestine rally, where chants were reportedly loud, emotions were high, and humanitarian concern appeared tightly focused on select international conflicts. Critics noted the absence of similar appearances at protests over civilian deaths elsewhere, but were reassured this was likely due to scheduling conflicts.
Footage from the rally sparked online outrage after police were accused of violence against protesters, including vision of an officer striking a demonstrator. The ABC aired the clip while omitting additional footage reportedly showing the same protester biting the officer’s hand and refusing to let go, in what media analysts described as a “creative editorial choice.”
In related developments, Australia’s Greta Thunberg-adjacent public commentator J. Kennedy Jr. has reportedly expressed interest in funding research into whether children with the initials G.T. are statistically more likely to develop autism, narcissism, or a lifelong urge to address every issue via protest chants. Researchers confirmed the study would be inconclusive but heavily reported.
The Australian of the Year committee later reiterated that the award is not restricted to completed missions, measurable outcomes, or balanced activism, but instead celebrates visibility, persistence, and the ability to remain culturally unavoidable.
At time of publication, next year’s shortlist reportedly consists of “anyone already trending.”
