Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has moved to immediately add The Nightly to the Government’s $96 million journalism fund after receiving an unscripted question from one of its journalists
Latika Bourke asked Albanese whether he felt like “a bit of a fraud” accepting a Global Citizen Award after allegedly “screwing up the response to the worst massacre since Port Arthur”, while Labor was polling around the same level as when he “rolled” Julia Gillard.
The Government has since discovered that The Nightly wasn’t included in its journalism funding arrangements — despite finding money for most other news outlets.
Officials are now reportedly considering doubling the fund. Tripling it has not been ruled out.
The Prime Minister’s US trip has otherwise been a resounding success, meeting an Apple employee, securing a five minute Facetime with Donald Trump Jr and being greeted by several high-level sniffer dogs on arrival.
ABC Journalist, David Spears, told The Nightly’s Bourke to get off the PM’s plane and get a Jet Star home. Tony Bourke has also advised her that she may have some visa issues if “The Nightly” doesn’t agree to the ‘terms and conditions’ of the $96 million ‘Journalist’ fund.
Sources say the Government is determined to ensure this never happens again.
