Australian universities have reacted with alarm to the Coalition’s migration policy released today, which proposes cutting net overseas migration to 100,000 and reducing foreign student numbers.
Vice-chancellors are facing the prospect of fewer international students to charge enormous fees to — and fewer students available for campus activism, Palestine protests and campaigns such as the University of Sydney’s “Globalise the Intifada”.
The timing is particularly awkward given the Omani co-pilot accused of trying to seize control of a Flydubai flight last week previously studied engineering at RMIT University in Melbourne.
